Unit 2- Area

This is an attempt to scan and share a hand-written activity.
A good review activity for unit one.
You will need to open this with the Discovering Geometry Worksheet Builder.

Student guided notes for exploring the areas and perimeters of polygons as dimensions are changed by different scale factors.

This is the lesson plans for the week.

Documents for week of 10/18/10

Feel free to separate the packet. It looks intense all together.

Just the 3 question quiz. I got it from the book, but it's a pdf so I couldn't get it to save separately.

Unit 3- Pythagorean Theorem and Similarity
This next week will be like a mini-book for the kids. The idea is that they will have a file folder that they can keep their work in and organized. In the book they will have the whole weeks lessons already in it and at the end of the week will be a notebook check on completion of notes and work. In the notes is the main idea of the unit and the you do section of the lesson. After the notes section is gone over, the students will take Cornell notes of the I do, We do, and final check on notebook paper and then the you do section as well. This will help save paper for the department. I've created a teacher notebook and a student notebook example for each of you. I also did an example of what the student notes should look like for the first lesson after the pre-assessment. The idea for the pre-assessment is for the students to take it, then self-correct and take notes on the pre-assessment. Getting folders for all your students can be a little spendy so you can modify these lessons as you see fit. The folders that I bought were 49 cents apiece at office depot and they can be re-used. If you want to still use guided notes, you can modify the teacher notes into guided notes. Friday's lesson is an application of similar polygons and we were thinking of doing a choice on that lesson. I proposed the outdoor activity where they use similar polygons to find the height of objects outside. This requires some sort of measuring device such as tape measures. Another thought is a mirror activity where they use similar triangles to find the height of objects. We'll get those options to you by Friday.
